Ford files patent for new style EV charging station

Ford EV charging station

The Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a new type of EV charging station that may be used for future Ford vehicles.

So says Ford Authority, adding the patent was filed on April 18, 2023, published on October 24, 2024, and assigned serial number 0351462.

Ford has various ideas for EV charging, including a hands-free system, a wireless charging system, and one capable of using robots as charging assistants.

This one proposes a rail system, mobile base structure and a charging station with a battery, says Ford Authority, adding the base “would be capable of moving along the rails by using a motor, and the battery could also move as needed, too”.

A large mechanical arm/robot would be attached to the rail that’s also capable of moving from charger to charger, probably to plug in and unplug EVs at the beginning and end of a charging session.
