Australia makes EV progress
EVs now represent nearly one in 10 new light vehicle sales (9.5%), a 150% increase on 2022, says the Electric Vehicle Council’s (EVC) State of EVs latest report.
The report also forecasts new EV sales (BEV and PHEV) in Australia will reach at least 15-19% in 2026, based on current EV policy.
The EVC has graded Australia’s states and territories on their EV policies with New South Wales now claiming the top spot (9/10), followed by the federal government and Australian Capital Territory (8/10), Western Australia (7/10), Queensland and Victoria (6/10), South Australia and Tasmania (5/10) and the Northern Territory (4/10).
The report also highlights about 110,000 new EVs are expected to be sold in Australia this year, with 122 EV models and more than 220 variants now available – a 50% increase in variants compared to 2023.
