Kia has offered a first glimpse of its much-anticipated EV4 sedan in New Zealand, unveiling a right-hand-drive pre-production model just weeks after its global reveal.

Set to arrive exclusively as a sedan, the EV4 won’t be available in hatchback form due to production constraints. Built in Korea, it will come with two battery options: a 51.8kWh NMC battery and a long-range 81kWh NMC battery. Thanks to its streamlined design, the larger battery is claimed to deliver an impressive WLTP-rated range of up to 630km.

Although officially classified as a C-segment vehicle, similar in size to a Toyota Corolla, the EV4’s spacious interior places it in direct competition with mid-size sedans such as the Tesla Model 3.

Sedan with a hint of SUV

With vertical front LED lights, pop-out door handles, and prominent black body cladding, the EV4 blends sedan styling with SUV-inspired elements.

At the rear, its extended tail design bears resemblance to the Deepal EU7 concept vehicle. Boot capacity sits at 490 litres, though its sedan layout means access isn’t as convenient as a liftback.

Despite this, the EV4 could easily accommodate two to three large suitcases, making it a strong option for fleet buyers and ride-sharing services.

Competitive charging

The EV4’s charging speeds are solid with peak DC charging rates between 100 to 120kW, courtesy of its 400-volt architecture. A 10-80% charge can be achieved in approximately 30 minutes.

Inside, the EV4 bosts an eco-conscious cabin featuring recycled and bio-based materials. A 29-inch panoramic display integrates instrumentation, infotainment, and climate controls, complemented by tactile physical switches for added convenience. Premium features include plush seating, wireless phone charging, and powerful 100-watt USB ports.

Rear passenger space is decent, though taller occupants may find headroom slightly restricted with the optional sunroof. A glass roof option without a sliding panel could provide extra clearance.

The Kia EV4 is expected to arrive in New Zealand dealerships by late 2025, with final specifications and pricing to be confirmed closer to launch.
