General Motors has revealed early designs of its Chevy Blazer EV. R race car concept.

The all-electric race car concept was unveiled in February, a few days before the 2025 Daytona 500 (February 17), says GM Authority, adding the Blazer is built on the current “Next Gen” chassis underpinning the internal combustion engine (ICE)-based Chevy Camaro NASCAR machines.

“Chevy Blazer EV.R looks to be a potential way forward for motorsport in the transition to all-electric powertrains, although when that transition may take place in NASCAR remains to be determined,” says GM Authority.

“Nevertheless, GM Design is now giving us a look at the Chevy Blazer EV.R in its early design phase, providing insight into the racing concept’s development.”

GM Authority says the majority of the Chevy Blazer EV.R design is based on the production-spec Chevy Blazer EV SS, with proportions that are ‘lower, wider, and more aggressive’ than its road-going counterpart.

“Naturally, the racing machine also sports a range of dramatic aero enhancements, such as a front splitter, lower-body side sills, a rear diffuser, and a large wing connected to the crossover’s hatch. The race car also incorporates side window netting and an extensive roll cage, while the running gear was swapped out for a set of lightweight racing wheels and Goodyear Eagle race slicks.”

GM Design also provided a series of ‘behind the curtain’ photos showcasing a few moments in the clay model development process for the Chevy Blazer EV.R, says GM Authority, adding it features an all-wheel drivetrain rated at about 969kW (1300 horsepower) with a pair of six-phase rear motors and a single front-mounted motor.

“The prototype is fully operational as well, with 2024 Xfinity Series champion Justin Allgaier at the helm for testing at the Carolina Motorsports Park.”
