JAC unveils torque-heavy T9 Hunter PHEV ute at Fieldays
JAC Motors has used Fieldays 2025 to debut its new T9 Hunter PHEV prototype – a bold move from the brand as it eyes a future in hybrid commercial transport.
The plug-in hybrid ute combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with twin electric motors to target an eye-popping 1000Nm of torque. While the final specification and launch timing remain unconfirmed, JAC says the pre-production model is now undergoing local evaluation.
“We want to hear what Kiwis think and get the PHEV out and about on and off NZ roads for rigorous testing,” says JAC New Zealand General Manager Andrew Craw. “The T9 Hunter PHEV shows what JAC can deliver in the world of electric and hybrid workhorses.”
The powertrain is expected to deliver over 100km of electric-only range, with a hybrid mode extending usability even further — putting the T9 Hunter PHEV in direct competition with the likes of the BYD Shark 6.
JAC’s electric ambitions don’t stop there. Alongside the new prototype, the company is showcasing its growing fleet of electrified and low-emissions models, including light-duty EV trucks. The brand is also strengthening its national footprint with new dealer locations in Napier, North Shore Auckland, and Hamilton.
JAC is presenting the T9 Hunter PHEV at Fieldays Site F90. Visitors can explore the range, grab a free pie, and scan their Fieldays Smart Band for a chance to win a 4WD Auto JAC T9.
