Watch: Tesla Model Y completes world’s first driverless factory-to-home delivery

Tesla has completed what it says is the world’s first fully autonomous vehicle delivery, with a new Model Y driving itself from the company’s Texas factory to a customer’s home — without a single human inside or remote control from outside.

On June 27, the vehicle made the journey from Tesla’s Austin Gigafactory to a nearby customer using the carmaker’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, marking a historic moment for both Tesla and the global automotive industry.

“From factory to driveway — autonomously,” Tesla said in a statement.

“We completed our first fully autonomous delivery with no one in the car. Model Y drove itself from our Austin Gigafactory to our customer’s driveway using nothing but our Robotaxi technology — with zero human intervention needed. And this is just the beginning.”

According to Tesla’s head of AI and Autopilot, Ashok Elluswamy, the vehicle reached speeds of over 100km/h during the trip.

Tesla chief executive Elon Musk confirmed the milestone on social media, saying the delivery occurred one day earlier than planned.

Musk added there were no people in the car and no remote operators in control at any point.

The first fully autonomous delivery of a Tesla Model Y from factory to a customer home across town, including highways, was just completed a day ahead of schedule!!
