GWM adds plug-in hybrid variants to Haval H6 range in NZ
GWM has expanded its Haval H6 line-up in New Zealand with the addition of two new plug-in hybrid variants, offering buyers more electrified options in the competitive mid-size SUV segment.
Available now, the H6 Ultra PHEV comes in both 2WD and AWD configurations, priced at $50,990 and $53,990respectively (SRRP, plus on-road costs). Both models are based on the top-spec Ultra grade and feature a plug-in hybrid system combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with electric motors.
The front-wheel-drive model delivers 240kW and 540Nm, while the all-wheel-drive version, powered by GWM’s Hi4 intelligent hybrid 4WD system, steps up to 268kW and 760Nm. That extra punch translates to a 0–100km/h sprint in just 4.8 seconds for the AWD variant.
Despite the strong performance figures, the H6 PHEV remains efficient, with fuel consumption listed at just 1.0L/100km (2WD) and 1.1L/100km (AWD) on the NEDC test cycle. Claimed electric-only range is 106km for the 2WD and 100km for the AWD, thanks to a 19.09kWh lithium iron phosphate battery.
Charging is handled via a CCS2 port, with DC fast-charging from 30 to 80 percent possible in under 30 minutes — a notable feature in a segment where many plug-in hybrids lack rapid charging capability.
The plug-in models mirror the top-end specification of the H6 Ultra petrol range, including a 14.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, panoramic sunroof, ventilated and heated front seats, and a 360-degree surround view camera with transparent chassis mode. A full suite of active safety tech comes standard, including adaptive cruise, traffic jam assist, and autonomous emergency braking.
Both black and cream leather-accented interiors are offered, and the PHEV is available in four exterior colours: Hamilton White, Ayers Grey, Golden Black, and Astral Pearl.
The new additions bring the H6 range to a total of six variants in New Zealand, spanning petrol, hybrid, and now plug-in hybrid powertrains. GWM says the move reflects growing consumer interest in electrified options that balance practicality, performance, and value.
All H6 PHEV models are backed by GWM Care, which includes a 7-year unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty, 8-year battery warranty, and 5 years of roadside assistance.
