Mazda New Zealand has confirmed the all-new 6e electric vehicle (EV) will launch locally in the second half of 2026, bringing the brand’s first electric sedan to Kiwi roads.

The fully electric Mazda 6e was unveiled in Beijing last year before launching in Europe at the Brussels Motor Show in early 2025. The model is rolling out across major European markets throughout 2025.

Mazda New Zealand managing director David Hodge says the 6e continues the heritage of the Mazda6 nameplate, which has been sold locally across multiple generations.

“All generations of the Mazda6 have been held in high regard in New Zealand,” Hodge says. “The model is known for striking design, superb comfort and high levels of driving enjoyment. The Mazda 6e continues this theme whilst offering new levels of technology and a dynamic EV powertrain to our customers.”

Design evolution with electric focus

The 6e introduces what Mazda calls the next evolution of its “Kodo: Soul of Motion” design philosophy. The five-door hatchback features flowing lines and a low roofline with short-deck coupé silhouette, combining sporty aesthetics with practical functionality.

Design details include a bold lighting signature, frameless doors and integrated handles for what Mazda describes as a seamless and modern appearance. The rear features a four-cylinder light design and electric spoiler.

The company says the 6e’s driving dynamics have been developed around its “Jinba-Ittai” philosophy, which focuses on creating unity between car and driver. A driver-focused cockpit layout and ergonomically designed seats are intended to provide comfort and control on longer journeys.

Mazda says every aspect of the 6e’s design contributes to what it calls a dynamic, engaging and unmistakably Mazda driving experience, bridging tradition with electric vehicle innovation.

The 6e is expected in New Zealand showrooms during the second half of 2026. Mazda says further details on equipment specifications, technical information and pricing will be shared closer to the local launch timing.
