Audi launches China-only electric SUV under new ‘AUDI’ sub-brand
Audi has unveiled a new China-only electric SUV under its local “AUDI” sub-brand as it deepens its partnership with SAIC and accelerates its market-specific EV strategy.
Revealed at Auto Guangzhou 2025, the AUDI E SUV Concept is the second model from the sub-brand, following the E5 Sportback launched earlier this year. Unlike Audi’s global line-up, AUDI models drop the traditional Four Rings in favour of block lettering and are designed exclusively for China.
The E SUV is larger than the discontinued Q8 e-tron, measuring 5057mm long, 2042mm wide and 1786mm high, with a 3060mm wheelbase aimed at the strong local demand for rear-seat space. It sits on 23-inch wheels with 285/40 R23 Michelin Pilot Sport all-season tyres.
Styling follows the E5 Sportback, with a minimalist profile, flush door handles, C-shaped lighting, a roof-mounted LiDAR pod and side-view cameras in place of mirrors.
Like the E5, the E SUV is built on the Advanced Digitised Platform co-developed with SAIC. A 109kWh battery delivers a claimed 700km range on China’s CLTC test cycle, while DC fast-charging can add up to 320km in 10 minutes. A dual-motor all-wheel-drive system branded Quattro enables a 0–100km/h time of five seconds.
Audi has confirmed the AUDI sub-brand will remain exclusive to China, with production of the E SUV scheduled for 2026. Pricing has not been announced, but it is expected to sit above the E5 Sportback, which currently ranges from the equivalent of US$33,000 to US$45,000.
The move underscores Audi’s strategy of developing China-specific EVs in partnership with local manufacturers as competition from domestic electric brands continues to intensify.
