Dongfeng Motor has announced pricing for its new 007 fastback coupe that delivers what may be the most compelling performance-per-dollar proposition in the New Zealand electric vehicle (EV) market, with the rear-wheel drive Long Range variant starting at $54990 and a 400kW all-wheel drive Performance model priced at just $59990.

At that price point, the Performance variant delivers 0–100km/h acceleration in 3.9 seconds – performance that typically commands six-figure price tags from established premium brands.

The 007 is available to order now through Armstrong’s Distribution Limited, with test drives commencing at Dongfeng dealerships from mid-February. The model becomes the third in Dongfeng’s New Zealand lineup, joining the VIGO SUV and BOX compact model.

“Thanks to Dongfeng, we’re helping Kiwi families drive their dreams and by making a wide range of attractive, technology-rich new-energy vehicles available that deliver leading value across a variety of market segments,” says Simon Rutherford, chief executive of Armstrong’s Distribution Limited.

Performance credentials that rewrite the rulebook

The Performance model’s 400kW dual-motor setup delivers supercar-level acceleration at a price that undercuts most conventional premium sedans. For context, that 3.9-second sprint time matches or betters vehicles costing twice the price.

The Long Range variant, meanwhile, delivers 520km WLTP range – genuine long-distance capability that addresses one of the key barriers to EV adoption. Both variants use Dongfeng’s Mach-E 10-in-1 electric drive technology paired with a 70kWh battery.

“At $59990, no other large sedan offers this level of performance and technology,” Rutherford says. “The Dongfeng 007 fundamentally changes the large EV sedan conversation in New Zealand.”

The vehicle achieves a drag coefficient of just 0.209, making it the most aerodynamically efficient EV sedan currently available in New Zealand – a figure that rivals purpose-built efficiency champions.

The fastback coupe design includes frameless doors, hidden door handles and an active shutter grille that optimises both cooling and efficiency. The 2915mm wheelbase provides substantial interior space while maintaining the sleek profile.

“It delivers the kind of performance, refinement and space buyers expect from premium European brands, but at a price that dramatically lowers the barrier to entry,” Rutherford says.

Premium features standard across both variants include a 1.84m² panoramic glass roof, 19-inch alloy wheels, ventilated front seats, and a 15.6-inch digital interface powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 computing chip. The system also supports the vehicle’s built-in recording function using onboard cameras.

Real-world usability

The Long Range model supports DC fast charging up to 200kW, achieving 30–80% charge in just 26 minutes – addressing another key EV adoption barrier. Both variants come with Apple CarPlay standard, with Android Auto available as an option.

A 19-speaker WANOS theatre-grade sound system with integrated headrest speakers and ambient lighting synchronisation completes the premium cabin experience.

Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, rear parking sensors, and a 540-degree surround-view camera. Advanced driver assistance systems include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and blind spot monitoring. The 007 has been assigned a five-star Vehicle Safety Risk Rating.

The 007 comes with a six-year/200000km vehicle warranty, eight-year/200000km battery warranty, and six-year roadside assistance coverage.

Both models are available in Morning White as standard, with optional colours including Night Shadow Black, Sun Gold, Stone Grey, and Orchid Purple (Performance only) for an additional $499.

Dongfeng has also confirmed its BOX model will continue at the special price of $29990 until the end of April 2026, extending the original promotion deadline.
