Chinese electric vehicle brand Xpeng has officially launched in New Zealand, with confirmation its first dealerships in Auckland and Christchurch are now in operation.

The initial locations — Xpeng Auckland North Shore and Xpeng Christchurch — offer full sales, service and test-drive facilities, marking the start of the company’s physical retail presence in New Zealand.

Xpeng says the openings represent the first stage of a nationwide rollout, moving the brand from market preparation to direct customer engagement and bringing its smart, AI-led mobility technology to New Zealand roads.

Each dealership is showcasing the Xpeng G6 Ultra Smart Coupé SUV, positioned as a premium electric SUV combining artificial intelligence, advanced driver-assistance systems and a technology-focused driving experience. Customers can experience Xpeng’s in-house developed ADAS features, electrical and electronic architecture, and intelligent cockpit with over-the-air software updates.

Xpeng New Zealand head of marketing Damian Royce says the January openings are a significant milestone for the brand.

“Opening our first dealerships has brought Xpeng’s smart AI-driven mobility vision to life for Kiwi drivers,” Royce says.

“New Zealand has shown strong enthusiasm for innovation and sustainability, and our new dealerships now give customers the opportunity to see, touch, and experience our technology firsthand. It’s been an exciting start to 2026, and just the beginning of our nationwide expansion.”

Xpeng says the new sites will provide local expertise and support, demonstrating how its technology is designed to enhance both everyday commuting and longer-distance travel.

Further dealership openings are planned in Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton and Tauranga later in 2026 as the brand continues its New Zealand expansion
