Auckland Explorer Bus unveils first all-electric sightseeing bus
Auckland Explorer Bus has launched New Zealand’s first open-top, double-decker electric sightseeing bus, marking a step toward lower-emissions tourism in the city.
The new vehicle entered full-time service on January 28 after completing its maiden journey on January 23, offering passengers a zero-emissions experience and a quieter, smoother ride.
Auckland Explorer Bus, owned by Entrada Travel Group, operates the city’s hop-on hop-off sightseeing service. The company says the electric bus reflects its commitment to sustainable tourism and improving the passenger experience.
The bright blue and yellow bus is owned and operated by New Zealand-owned Tranzit Group, a long-term fleet partner of Entrada Travel Group. Tranzit Group introduced electric bus technology to New Zealand in 2018 and has since expanded its electric fleet and charging network across the North Island.
The three-axle electric bus was designed by Tranzit Group’s specialist team and is powered by 508kW of CATL batteries, providing a range of more than 330km on a single charge.
Entrada Travel Group signed the New Zealand Tourism Sustainability Commitment in 2023, a programme aimed at positioning New Zealand as a global leader in sustainable tourism. Since then, the company has been modernising its fleet and transitioning to lower-emission vehicles across the business.
