Meridian opens St Arnaud EV charging station
Meridian Energy has opened a new electric vehicle (EV) charging station in St Arnaud, adding fast charging capability to the South Island alpine village.
The charging site is located at Alpine Lodge on 75 Main Road and features two 100kW DC fast charge points with both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors.
Meridian says the location makes it easier for EV drivers to charge while exploring local lakes, trails and alpine views. The company suggests drivers can grab food at the lodge and stretch their legs while their vehicles charge.
St Arnaud sits at the northern end of Lake Rototiti and serves as a gateway to Nelson Lakes National Park, making it a strategic location for EV charging infrastructure supporting tourism and recreational travel.
The new charging station forms part of Meridian’s expanding network across New Zealand. The company says it wants feedback from users to help build a better charging network across the country.
Meridian announced the opening via its social media channels, highlighting the site’s role in supporting EV travel in the region.
