Lexus will introduce connected vehicle technology to New Zealand for the first time with the launch of the all-new ES sedan in mid-2026.

The eighth generation ES will arrive showcasing a completely new look with its new generation spindle body and sculpted design, and will be available with both hybrid and battery electric vehicle (BEV) powertrain options.

Lexus Connected Services will include SOS emergency call functionality, automatic collision notification in the event of an accident, and stolen vehicle tracking. The system is designed to provide drivers with 24/7 peace of mind and enhance overall ownership experience.

The connected services will work alongside the latest Lexus Safety System+ to offer convenience functions accessible via the Lexus Connected app. Remote functions include vehicle start, lock and unlock, and climate control management.

Through the app, customers can access vehicle insights such as odometer reading, distance to empty, vehicle location, and notifications for unlocked doors or open windows.

Lexus New Zealand Vice President Andrew Davis says Lexus Connected Services has been designed to thoughtfully elevate the ownership experience through improved voice recognition and a mobile application that provides access to useful vehicle-related information and services.

“The new ES brings together calm, refined driving with technology that genuinely supports the ownership experience. Connected Services make it easier for customers to stay informed, stay connected and feel supported whether they’re behind the wheel or away from the vehicle,” he says.

“It’s about giving drivers simple, intuitive access to the information and functions they need, without taking away from the quiet confidence and comfort Lexus is known for.”

Emergency response and security features

Automatic collision notification alerts a Lexus emergency call centre if the vehicle detects a serious collision, even if the driver is unable to place a call. Built-in vehicle sensors trigger this notification, allowing the call centre to direct emergency services to the vehicle’s location if required. Assistance can also be manually requested by a vehicle occupant via the SOS button.

If a vehicle is reported stolen, stolen vehicle tracking may assist in locating it. Upon receipt of a police report, the emergency call centre can be requested by the vehicle owner to share the vehicle’s location with police to support recovery efforts.

The system operates using the vehicle’s inbuilt Data Communication Module (DCM) data plan rather than accessing the owner’s mobile data plan. However, when using the Lexus Connected app on a mobile device, the owner’s mobile data may be used.

Lexus Connected Services will also deliver enhanced navigation and trip management functions, including access to cloud-based maps and weather information. Drivers will be able to select a destination on their phone and send their journey directly to their connected vehicle.

Individual connected features will be grouped into product bundles and offered with complimentary trial periods before transitioning to a paid subscription model. Customers can opt out of selected connected services if they choose.

Core safety features, including SOS emergency call and automatic collision notification, are expected to remain complimentary services.
