Australian eVitara specs hint at NZ offering
Suzuki Australia’s announcement of specifications for its first electric vehicle could provide a preview of what New Zealand buyers can expect when the eVitara arrives locally in March
The Japanese manufacturer confirmed the e Vitara will launch in Australia from June 2026 in two variants – Motion and Ultra – with battery options of 49kWh and 61kWh respectively. While New Zealand specifications have not been confirmed, trans-Tasman automotive releases typically follow similar patterns.
The Motion variant features a 49kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with front-wheel drive and a 106kW electric motor, delivering a claimed 344km driving range. The Ultra steps up to a 61kWh battery with Suzuki’s new ALLGRIP-e electric four-wheel drive system and 135kW of power, extending range to 395km.

Electric 4WD system debuts
ALLGRIP-e represents Suzuki’s first electric four-wheel drive system, using separate front and rear electric motors for precise torque control. The system is designed to provide enhanced traction and stability across varying road conditions, with dedicated driving modes for both everyday driving and challenging surfaces.
The rear electric axle delivers an additional 114Nm of torque when required, with the system automatically adjusting power delivery to boost traction in slippery conditions.
Both variants support AC and DC charging, with fast-charging capability enabling 10–80% charging in 45 minutes on DC rapid charging. AC charging times range from 5.5 hours on an 11kW three-phase supply to nine hours on a 7kW single-phase connection.
Unlike many competitors, the e Vitara includes a heat pump as standard equipment across both variants. The system optimises battery performance, driving range and charging efficiency across varying temperatures.
Technology and safety focus
The eVitara is built on Suzuki’s newly developed HEARTECT-e platform, designed specifically for battery electric vehicles. The platform optimises cabin space and structural rigidity while efficiently managing collision energy and integrating high-voltage battery systems.
Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist and blind spot monitoring. Both variants feature a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and 10.1-inch centre display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
The Motion variant includes 18-inch alloy wheels, single-zone climate control and fabric seats, while the Ultra adds features such as a glass roof, wireless charging, heated front seats and an upgraded sound system.
The Australian announcement follows the global debut of the e Vitara, with the model expected to play a key role in Suzuki’s electrification strategy across multiple markets.
