Jaecoo New Zealand has confirmed pricing for its all-new J5 electric vehicle (EV), with the compact SUV set to arrive in dealerships at $42,990 plus on-road costs.

The single-variant model is slated for a March arrival and comes with a comprehensive feature list aimed at appealing to a variety of buyers, says the company.

The J5 EV is powered by a single 155kW electric motor producing 288Nm of torque, driving the front wheels. It uses a 58.9kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery positioned under the floor, delivering a WLTP range of up to 402km.

Charging capabilities include DC fast charging at up to 130kW, allowing the battery to charge from 30–80% in approximately 28 minutes. AC charging is available at 6.6kW on single-phase or 10.3kW on three-phase supply.

Pet-friendly interior

Inside, the J5 EV features a 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 8.88-inch LCD driver instrument cluster. The cabin includes a glass roof with powered sunshade, ambient lighting, and what Jaecoo calls pet-friendly synthetic leather seats.

These seats are made from a special silicone-based material that is antibacterial and wear-resistant, making them more durable and easier to clean than conventional materials. The seats are TÜV SÜD certified for scratch resistance and eco-friendly characteristics.

Other interior features include dual-zone automatic air conditioning, heated and ventilated front seats, 6-way powered adjustment for both front seats, and a 50W wireless charger. The vehicle offers 384 litres of luggage capacity up to the cargo cover, expanding to 480 litres to the roof.

Design draws Range Rover influences

The J5 EV’s exterior design takes cues from off-roading icons, and somewhat shamelessly resembles a baby Range Rover – not unexpected given both brands share joint venture connections in China. The styling includes large Jaecoo lettering front and rear, an EV-specific grille with active aero flaps, slimline headlights, and a sloping roofline.

The vehicle sits on 18-inch alloy wheels with Continental EcoContact 7 tyres sized 235/55 R18. LED lighting is standard throughout, including projector-type headlights, daytime running lights, and tail lights.

At 4380mm long, 1860mm wide, and 1650mm tall, the J5 EV has a 2620mm wheelbase and weighs 1710kg. Maximum towing capacity is 750kg for unbraked trailers.

Comprehensive warranty coverage

“Jaecoo believes adventure should be limitless—just like our commitment to provide premium quality that lasts,” the company says in its announcement.

The J5 EV is backed by a 7-year unlimited kilometre warranty, up to 7 years of roadside assistance, and an 8-year unlimited kilometre battery warranty. The roadside assistance program provides a complimentary first year, with coverage renewable for additional 12-month periods at each scheduled service with an authorised Jaecoo dealership.

Standard safety equipment includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and prevention, blind spot detection, and a comprehensive airbag system with seven airbags including a front centre airbag.

The J5 EV will be available for test drives when it arrives in March. More information is available through the Omoda Jaecoo dealer network.
