Five-star ANCAP ratings for Denza B8 and Hyundai Elexio
Two new electrified SUVs entering the market have secured five-star safety ratings under ANCAP’s latest criteria.
ANCAP Safety announced on February 20 that the Denza B8 plug-in hybrid and the Hyundai Elexio electric SUV achieved the top rating following assessment against its 2023–2025 test and rating protocols.
ANCAP says the results reflect the continued development of active safety technologies designed to prevent crashes, with both models equipped as standard with autonomous emergency braking and lane support systems.
Hyundai’s all-electric Elexio medium SUV delivered strong protection for other road users, recording solid performance across autonomous emergency braking scenarios involving other vehicles, including motorcycles. Following a detailed review of technical evidence, ANCAP adopted destructive crash test results from the closely related Kia EV5.
The Denza B8 plug-in hybrid was awarded a five-star rating partly based on testing and assessment of its partner model, the Denza B5, which ANCAP rated in late 2025. ANCAP says comprehensive technical documentation and test results demonstrated comparable safety performance between the two vehicles. Because of design differences at the front of the B8, additional testing was carried out, resulting in a Vulnerable Road User Protection score of 75%.
“Consumers are expecting increasingly comprehensive safety performance from new vehicles in the market regardless of powertrain. These five-star results demonstrate solid occupant protection combined with advanced crash avoidance technology, providing confidence for families and fleet buyers alike,” ANCAP chief executive Carla Hoorweg says.
