GWMOra5-4-2

GWM New Zealand has announced pricing for its all-electric Ora 5 SUV, with the compact electric vehicle set to arrive in local showrooms in June 2026.

The electric SUV will start at $36,990 before on-road costs for the entry-level Lux variant, positioning it below the similar-sized BYD Atto 2 in the competitive compact electric SUV segment. A higher-specification Ultra model will be available for $39,990.

The Ora 5 is powered by a 58.3kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that delivers a WLTP-rated electric driving range of up to 430km. A single electric motor mounted on the front axle produces 150kW of power and 260Nm of torque.

The compact SUV supports DC fast charging at rates up to 120kW, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% capacity in approximately 20 minutes. The vehicle also features a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system capable of supplying up to 6kW of power for external devices or appliances.

At 4.4 metres in length, the Ora 5 represents a larger offering compared to the previous Ora hatch model while remaining positioned in the compact SUV category.

Technology and connectivity features

Inside, the Ora 5 features a 14.6-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The driver faces a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, while safety technology includes an adaptive cruise control system.

The New Zealand range will consist of two trim levels, with both the Lux and Ultra variants offering the same powertrain and battery configuration. The Ora 5 represents GWM’s continued expansion of its electric vehicle lineup in the local market, targeting buyers seeking an affordable electric SUV option.

The June 2026 arrival date will see the Ora 5 enter a competitive segment that includes established players like the BYD Atto 2 and other compact electric SUVs targeting New Zealand buyers.
