Video: EVs ruled out as cause of BYD fire
A major fire broke out at a facility owned by BYD in Shenzhen, with early investigations ruling out electric vehicle batteries as the cause.
The blaze occurred in the early hours of April 14 at a vehicle garage in the Pingshan district, sending large plumes of smoke into the air and prompting widespread circulation of videos on social media.
Local authorities say no one was injured in the incident, although nearby traffic was restricted and a school was temporarily closed due to the smoke.

BYD released a statement saying the fire occurred in a structure used to store test and scrapped vehicles.
Initial findings indicate EV batteries were not responsible for starting the fire, with reports suggesting the blaze may have been caused by construction workers accidentally igniting combustible materials.
The company says the incident is not expected to impact vehicle production, while investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
