Volkswagen has unveiled a significantly updated version of its ID.3 electric hatchback in Europe, rebranded as the ID.3 Neo.

The new model features a redesigned exterior and interior, alongside improvements in efficiency, technology and driving range. It adopts Volkswagen’s latest ‘Pure Positive’ design language, including a cleaner front-end, full-width light strip and illuminated badge, with changes to the roofline and rear aimed at delivering a lower, more dynamic stance.

Inside, Volkswagen says the cabin has been upgraded with improved materials and a more intuitive layout, with a redesigned cockpit, new multi-function steering wheel and updated switchgear.

Technology has also been enhanced with the latest Innovision infotainment system, featuring a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch central touchscreen. A new in-car app store allows users to download additional features and services.

The ID.3 Neo introduces a new-generation electric drive system, with three power outputs of 125kW, 140kW and 170kW, and battery options of 50kWh, 58kWh and 79kWh. Volkswagen says the largest battery delivers a driving range of up to 630km (WLTP).

Charging capability has been increased, with smaller battery variants supporting up to 105kW DC fast charging, while the largest battery supports up to 183kW.

New driver assistance and convenience features include enhanced travel assist with traffic light recognition, one-pedal driving and vehicle-to-load capability.

The model will be offered in multiple trim levels, with available features including an augmented reality head-up display, panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon audio system and advanced parking assistance.

It is not yet confirmed whether the ID.3 Neo will be offered in New Zealand. The current local EV line-up includes the ID.4, ID.5 and ID.Buzz.
