MG confirms electric U9 ute and S6 SUV for New Zealand
MG Motor New Zealand has confirmed it will introduce two new electric models to the local line-up, with the MGS6 SUV and U9 ute expected to arrive around the third quarter of the year.
The MGS6 is already on sale in the United Kingdom, where it offers a claimed range of up to 530km from a 77kWh battery. It will be offered in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants in New Zealand.
The rear-wheel drive version produces 180kW and 350Nm and supports DC fast charging of up to 144kW. The all-wheel drive model delivers 266kW and is claimed to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.1 seconds. At 4.7 metres in length, the MGS6 is positioned as a larger SUV option above the S5.
The U9 ute will mark MG’s entry into the electric ute segment. It features a dual-motor setup producing 325kW, with early specifications indicating a 3500kg braked towing capacity and a 685kg payload.
It is expected to be equipped with a 102kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, delivering a claimed WLTP range of around 430km.
MG says further details on specifications and pricing will be confirmed closer to launch.
The announcement follows recent sightings of the LDV eTerron 9 in New Zealand, which some reports linked to testing activity. However, MG says the vehicle was privately owned and not part of a local evaluation programme.
