BYD Shark 6 to gain free off-road software upgrade
BYD New Zealand says all Shark 6 owners will receive a free over-the-air software update adding a new “Crawl Mode” designed to improve the plug-in hybrid ute’s low-speed off-road performance.
The feature debuts on the recently launched Shark 6 Performance and will also be rolled out to existing Shark 6 Premium models at no cost.
When activated, Crawl Mode limits the vehicle to a maximum speed of 12km/h and automatically adjusts torque delivery to each wheel to help maintain traction on loose, slippery or uneven surfaces. The system is also designed to improve hill descent control.
BYD New Zealand general manager Warren Willmot says the update highlights one of the advantages of software-defined vehicles.
“I have always said the difference between BYD and a traditional ICE car is they improve over time, and this is an example,” Willmot says.
BYD has not confirmed a date for the software rollout, but says it will be delivered to owners over the air free of charge.
