Chery posts record May sales as exports and EV demand surge

Chery Group has reported record global sales for May, with strong export growth and rising demand for electrified vehicles helping drive the Chinese manufacturer’s continued expansion.

The company delivered 247,823 vehicles globally during May, up 20.5% on the same month last year. International deliveries reached a record 181,871 units, an increase of 80.5%, marking the third consecutive month of record export sales.

New energy vehicle (NEV) sales also continued to grow strongly, exceeding 100,000 units in a single month for the second consecutive time. Chery delivered 100,304 hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles during May, up 58.8% year-on-year.

The result helped Chery surpass one million vehicle sales in the first five months of 2026, reaching the milestone faster than at any other point in the company’s history.

From January to May, the group delivered more than 1.1 million vehicles globally. Export sales climbed 69.5% to 752,755 units during the period, while NEV sales increased 25.7% to 361,761 vehicles.

Chery says the strong performance has lifted its global customer base to more than 19.6 million owners, including more than 6.5 million outside China.

The company’s European expansion also continued to accelerate. Chery now operates in 24 European countries and delivered more than 107,000 vehicles across the region between January and April, representing growth of 230% compared with the same period last year.

Demand for electrified vehicles was particularly strong, with European NEV deliveries increasing 570%.

Chery says the results reflect growing global demand for its expanding range of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles as the company continues to invest in battery technology, advanced materials and sustainable manufacturing processes.

The latest sales figures come as Chery expands its global footprint and accelerates the rollout of new electrified models across international markets.
