GWM’s new Ora 5 electric SUV has arrived in New Zealand, with the first shipment landing ahead of deliveries to dealer showrooms around the country.

Priced from $36,990, the Ora 5 becomes New Zealand’s most affordable electric SUV and is available in two variants – the Lux from $36,990 and the Ultra from $39,990.

The launch marks GWM’s latest push into the growing EV market as the brand looks to build on recent momentum in New Zealand.

According to NZTA registration data, GWM is currently the country’s third-largest plug-in hybrid brand and fourth-largest hybrid brand year-to-date.

GWM ANZ chief operating officer John Kett says the Ora 5 fills an important gap in the company’s local line-up.

“It’s no secret that we’ve been keen to add a fully electrified SUV to the range for some time and the Ora 5 SUV is the perfect model to kick start GWM’s EV ambitions,” he says.

GWM says it has already received strong interest in the model since announcing its arrival.

The company is also planning to expand the Ora range further, with additional models expected to launch later this year.

Kett says GWM has its sights set on becoming a top-five EV brand in New Zealand as it grows its electric vehicle offering.
