Video: Kia EV9 GT impresses on the road, but would Gavin buy one?
Kia’s largest electric SUV now comes with a GT badge, and Group EV Editor Gavin Shoebridge has been finding out whether the performance treatment suits a seven-seater.
In his latest video review, Shoebridge says the EV9 GT is one of the most entertaining large EVs he has driven. With close to 380kW on tap, adaptive suspension and all-wheel drive, the big Kia grips well, feels smaller than its dimensions suggest and will even move around at the rear when pushed.
The GT also brings Kia’s simulated gear shifts and engine sounds, a feature Shoebridge puts to the test on the road, along with GT-exclusive interior features and updated cabin technology.
The review covers real-world range, charging speeds and how the EV9 GT behaves when driven hard. It is not all praise, though. Shoebridge says some of the driver assistance systems are intrusive enough to cross the line from helpful to frustrating, and for him they would be a dealbreaker at purchase time. He details the other compromises buyers should weigh up before paying the premium over the standard EV9.
So would he recommend it? The answer, he says, is both yes and no.
