GWM Haval H7 priced from $49,990, arrives next week

The boxy Haval H7 arrives with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, priced from $49,990 to $61,990 plus ORC.

GWM has priced the Haval H7 for New Zealand from $49,990 plus on-road costs, with the boxy mid-size SUV reaching dealers next week.

There are three variants, all electrified. The Lux 2WD Hybrid opens the range at $49,990, the Vanta Hybrid AWD is $55,990 and the Vanta PHEV AWD tops it at $61,990, all plus ORC. The 2WD hybrid follows the AWD models, arriving in showrooms from about December.

GWM confirmed the H7’s October arrival earlier this month. It joins the H6 in the medium SUV segment, and GWM New Zealand country manager Cameron Thomas said it was an important part of the company’s aim of becoming a top five brand here.

“The Haval H7 is an important part of that journey. It strengthens our presence in one of the country’s largest and most competitive SUV segments, while bringing a new combination of electrified performance, capability, technology and value to the market,” he said.

Hybrid and plug-in hybrid

Both powertrains use a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a four-speed dedicated hybrid transmission.

The hybrid produces 182kW of combined system power, runs 0-100km/h in 7.0 seconds and is rated at 7.0L/100km on the WLTC cycle.

The PHEV adds front and rear electric motors for 320kW and 670Nm, and cuts the 0-100km/h time to 4.9 seconds. Its 33.7kWh battery gives up to 137km of electric range (WLTC) and a combined range of up to 844km. It supports CCS2 DC fast charging, with a 30 to 80 per cent charge taking 18.6 minutes, and vehicle-to-load output of up to 6kW.

Built for the rough stuff

Vanta AWD variants get GWM’s Hi4 intelligent all-wheel drive, and the AWD models listed in the spec sheet have an electronic rear differential lock. There are eight drive modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, 4WD, Snow, Sand, Mud and Towing.

Braked towing capacity is 1500kg and payload is 500kg. The H7 measures 4800mm long, 1950mm wide and 1843mm tall on a 2738mm wheelbase, and carries a full-size spare on the tailgate.

Equipment

Standard equipment across the range includes 19-inch black alloys, LED headlights, a 15.6-inch touchscreen running GWM’s Coffee OS, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger and an eight-speaker stereo with DAB+.

Safety kit includes seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert with braking, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist and driver fatigue monitoring.

Vanta models add an electric sunroof, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, a head-up display, electric front seats with driver memory, ambient lighting, rear privacy glass and a 10-speaker stereo, along with gloss black exterior trim.
