Jaguar Type 01 revealed with 1030PS, NZ orders open early 2027

Jaguar's first new-era EV is a four-door GT with three motors, a 118kWh battery and an 850-volt system. NZ orders open in early 2027.

Jaguar has revealed the production Type 01 in New York, a four-door electric grand tourer with up to 1030PS (757kW), an 850-volt electrical system and a 118kWh usable battery. It is the first car built on the company’s new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA).

New Zealand orders open at the start of 2027, with prices to be confirmed closer to launch. Jaguar says first client deliveries are expected in the second half of 2027.

The Type 01 follows the Type 00 concept shown in Miami in December 2024, which launched Jaguar’s rebrand and its move to an electric-only line-up. Jaguar calls the car “the most technologically advanced and powerful Jaguar in the brand’s history” and says more than 360 patent applications were filed during its development.

Three motors, 1365Nm

Drive comes from three motors: a 260kW unit on the front axle and two 310kW motors sharing a single housing at the rear. Combined output is up to 1030PS and 1365Nm. Jaguar quotes 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds and 100-180km/h in 4.0 seconds.

Torque vectoring splits drive between the rear wheels, and Jaguar says its Integrated Traction Management cuts torque reaction time at each wheel from 100 milliseconds to as little as one millisecond, using software learnings from its Formula E team. In Dynamic mode up to 87 per cent of power goes to the rear axle.

An Inverter Deactivation Technology feature can shut down the rear motors when cruising, running the car on the front axle alone. Jaguar says this adds up to 28km of range.

The chassis uses double wishbones at the front and an integral link rear, air suspension with switchable volume air springs, twin-valve active dampers and all-wheel steering. The rear wheels turn up to six degrees, giving an 11.5m wall-to-wall turning circle. Weight distribution is 50:50, and the car sits on Pirelli P Zero tyres developed for it, with standard 23-inch wheels and 21-inch options.

Range and charging

The 118kWh usable lithium-ion battery uses NMC chemistry in prismatic cells. Jaguar’s technical press kit gives an expected WLTP range of up to 720km, and a range of up to 514km at a steady 120km/h.

On a 350kW DC charger Jaguar claims up to 321km of range can be added in 13 minutes, with a 10-80 per cent charge taking around 22 minutes. On 400-volt chargers a split-pack arrangement allows charging at up to 250kW. AC charging is at up to 22kW, and there are charge ports on both sides of the car.

The battery carries an eight-year or 160,000km warranty.

Jaguar says the battery pack extends ahead of the passenger compartment, which allowed 32 extra cells to be added without raising the roofline. It credits those cells with up to 112km of range and 150PS.

Aerodynamics and body

The drag coefficient is 0.23Cd, which Jaguar says makes the Type 01 its most aerodynamic car. Active vanes in the nose open for cooling and close for efficiency, and Jaguar says they add up to 43km of range. A three-stage rear spoiler deploys by seven degrees above 80km/h, then moves to 21 degrees above 155km/h, where it produces up to 75kg of downforce.

The car is 5235mm long and 1403mm tall. Jaguar says the underpinnings are 73 per cent aluminium, with torsional rigidity of 51.7kN/degree.

One rear quarter panel, which Jaguar calls the Impossible Panel, is pressed at Halewood in a six-stage process. The doors are frameless, and the tailgate has no rear glass. The rear lights are hidden in horizontal strikethroughs until they are switched on.

Inside

A central spine runs the length of the cabin, splitting it into four individual seats, with brass-effect anodised aluminium trim running along it and along the door tops. The driver faces a 24-inch OLED display that combines instruments and infotainment, with a seven-inch touchscreen between the front seats for climate and audio controls. A matching seven-inch screen in the rear console looks after rear passengers.

There is no conventional rear-view mirror. A ClearSight camera display sits in a full-width soundbar at the base of the windscreen. That soundbar has 13 speakers and is part of a 38-speaker system developed with Meridian.

Front seats are 12-way electric, heated, cooled and have a massage function, and the 50:50 split rear seats are heated and cooled. A panoramic glass roof is standard. Boot space is over 450 litres, rising to 1000 litres with the rear seats folded.

Exterior colours include five gloss shades and two satin finishes. A Chromatic Moments collection, limited to 60 cars worldwide, adds two exclusive paints, French Ultramarine and London Red.

New Zealand timing

The Type 01 is designed, engineered and built in the UK. New Zealand pricing and specification have not been announced. Orders open in early 2027, with first deliveries in the second half of the year.

Jaguar also named actor Florence Pugh as its first brand ambassador at the New York launch.
