General Motors GM) has unveiled the 2026 GMC Hummer EV which includes the new King Crab off-roading mode.

King Crab mode is designed to enhance the EV’s off-road manoeuvrability, using the Hummer’s rear-steer system.

GM confirms King Crab mode will roll out across the Hummer EV lineup, including models produced between the 2022 and 2025 model years, says GM Authority.

It says  King Crab mode enables the Hummer EV’s rear wheels to turn “significantly faster” than the front wheels. “This results in increased agility, allowing the Hummer EV to more easily navigate tight spaces and even tackle challenging rock-crawling terrain.”

“Anyone with a 2022 through 2025 Hummer EV will also gain access to the new feature through an over-the-air (OTA) software update, which GM says will be available later this year.

The 2026 Hummer EV also introduces several other upgrades.

It now supports bidirectional charging, allowing it to power another electric vehicle or a properly equipped home during a blackout.

Production of the 2026 GMC Hummer EV is expected to start later this year at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.
