New Zealand energy company North Rakaia has signed an agreement with Taiwan-based Mobii Green Energy Group to help build the world’s first green hydrogen AI data centre.

The deal includes the construction of 850MW solar farms, 300MW wind farms, green hydrogen production and power generation facilities, along with 750MW AI data centre campuses, all powered by green energy in Canterbury.

The first phase involves a $2 billion investment marking the first implementation of Mobii Green Energy’s Global Green Hydrogen Intelligent City (Green HI-City) initiative.

A cooperation agreement for the project was signed at Selwyn District Council on September 27 by Mobii Green Energy chairman Kenny Tseng and North Rakaia founder Yali Li, witnessed by Local Government NZ president and Selwyn District Council mayor Sam Broughton who says the partnership represents one of the largest data centre investments in New Zealand’s history.
