EV charger for Britomart

Auckland’s Britomart Car Park is the latest to add facilities for the charging of electric vehicle.

The dual port charger is now operational and can charge two vehicles at the same time.

Vector’s chief executive Simon Mackenzie welcomes the initiative and says that Vector is prepared to support and play a full role in driving the uptake of electric vehicles in Auckland.

“As we add more chargers into Auckland, we are helping to make electric vehicles more accessible and attractive to the public with long term benefits to the environment and much lower running costs for the motorists who switch over.

“In the next eight months, Vector will install at least another 15 rapid chargers and a similar number of standard chargers throughout the city, taking the total to 35,” Mackenzie says.

“We are the electricity infrastructure provider for Auckland and, as the city continues to grow, we are committed to using renewable energy technologies as much as possible,” he explains. “Our network of rapid and standard chargers will ensure EV drivers have the freedom and range to drive wherever they want to go around the Auckland region and beyond.”

Tim Ellis, the general manager of the Britomart Car Park says when Vector approached them to install the EV charging station, they had no hesitation.

“We are proud to support and encourage the use of electric vehicles in New Zealand and believe that this station, which offers Britomart Car Park users charging right in the heart of Auckland, will do that,” Ellis says.

AECT trustee, William Cairns says the charging infrastructure has been made possible with the support of the Auckland Energy Consumer Trust, via a fund which has historically been used for undergrounding projects in the AECT district and has recently been extended to include new technology such as solar and battery and EV chargers.

“The Trust is supportive of Vector’s investment in new technology and is delighted to see this initiative underway”.
