Plenty of EV interest in Dunedin

Dunedin’s Octagon was flooded with electric vehicles for more than two hours as part of the Leading The Charge Tour.

The tour, which promotes the uptake of the vehicles throughout New Zealand, stopped in at the city on April 20 with plenty of people braving the cold to stop in and ask questions.

EV enthusiast Martin Kane is on the tour and says it was great to meet everyone, including Dunedin’s newest Tesla owner who was interviewed by a Norwegian film crew following the tour.

On April 21 the tour continues its trek north with one group headed to Rakaia, for the opening of a new fast charger, while another group is off to Wanaka.

“The Rakaia fastcharger is great, particularly for people from Christchurch and South Catherbury.

“Previously, Christchurch EV owners have not been able to stretch their charging legs to come south.”

And it’s a big weekend ahead for the tour when the cars arrive in Christchurch, with a big programme of meetings and test drives planned.
