Leading The Charge set to hit Auckland

Events at either end of Auckland are planned when the Leading The Charge tour hits Auckland on Sunday.

Volt Vehicles will host EV enthusiasts at AUT’s Akoranga Campus on May 7 from noon-4PM, while Genuine Imported Vehicles (GVI) is running an event at Ardmore Airport from 11am-3pm.

GVI’s event, where the 12 car convoy promoting EVs to New Zealanders will stop first, includes a visit from energy and resources minister Judith Collins and a race between a Tesla and a Maclaren at 12.30pm.

There will be an attempt to break the New Zealand record for the largest gathering of EVs, which was set earlier in the tour in Christchurch.

Test drives of EVs will also be available at Ardmore.

On the Shore, there will be a focus on test drives with Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs, BMWi3s, Nissan Leafs and Hyundai Ioniqs all available to drive.

Volt Vehicles owner David Lees says Leading The Charge is a fantastic event.

“It’s a big picture thing to get people into the cars. They can get their hands on the car, touch it and drive it.”
He says the AUT venue is great because people can experience driving on the motorway, rather than just suburban streets.

It has been a busy few days for those on the tour, with the convoy attending events in many places including Hastings, Napier, Hamilton and Thames.
