BMW reveals latest PHEV

The fifth local BMW iPerformance plug-in hybrid model (PHEV) is about to hit the market.

It joins BMW’s other hybrids 225xe Active Tourer, 330e Sedan, X5 xDrive40e and 740e Sedan and the BMW i3 and i8 pure EVs.

The 530e iPerformance has an electric range of about 48 kilometres, a total range of up to 650 kilometres and fuel consumption of 2.0 litres per 100 km.

P90244221 low_resAnd its electric motor has an output of 83kW of power and places maximum torque of 250Nm, while the four-cylinder combustion engine with its 2.0-litre displacement generates 135 kW of power and 320 Nm of torque.

“Positioning the electric motor upstream from the transmission allows the transmission’s ratios to be used in all-electric mode too,” the company says.

The battery can also be charged in under five hours from a domestic charger, while safety features include evasion aid, crossing traffic warning and lane change assistant and active lane change warning.

The 530e iPerformance is priced at $133,900 plus on-road costs.
