EV owners big winners in car rego price drop

The cost of car registrations will drop tomorrow, with significant decreases for electric vehicle owners.

For petrol powered cars, it falls from about $130 to $113 per vehicle tomorrow the NZ Herald reports.

However, the drop in EV car registration is much more significant, falling to as low as $76 in some cases.

Motorcycle registrations will stay the same.

It is expected the new rates will apply for two years, saving motorists about $113 million.
