NZ Post halts audio recording on new EVs

Following discussions with its lawyers, NZ Post has decided to stop the audio recording of workers using new electric delivery vehicles.

It follows a complaint from the Postal Workers Union of Aotearoa, which says it breaches the privacy rights of its employees and members of the public.

The new Paxster vehicles have dashboard cameras for security.

It also pinpoints the vehicle’s exact position via GPS and records video and audio.

NZ Post acting general manager Matt Riordan told Radio NZ the organisation is reviewing its procedures.

“The purpose of these recordings is so we can investigate health and safety and security incidents.”
