BMW i8 Roadster plug-in hybrid nearly ready

The BMW i8 Roadster plug in hybrid is undergoing final testing at the company’s Leipzig plant.

The third member of the BMW I family is due out next year.

Pictures released by BMW on Facebook show the car in various phases of testing and reconstruction.

The roadster means open-top driving will be virtually silent and with zero emissions, BMW says.

Some preliminary information has been released on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

The plug-in roadster has a combined energy consumption of 14.7kWh/100km, a combined fuel consumption of 2.1 l/100km, and combined CO2 emissions of 48g/km.

BMW i is a BMW Group brand focusing on connected mobility services, visionary vehicle concepts and sustainability.

It is represented in 54 countries with the BMW i3 electric car for urban areas, BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car and plug-in hybrid BMW iPerformance cars.

BMW has a series of new all-electric vehicles after the roadster. The first fully electric Mini is planned for 2019, a fully electric BMW X3 in 2020, and the “fully electric BMW iNEXT” in 2021.
