All-electric Porsche sports car due 2019-2020

Porsche’s first all-electric sports car is nearing production.

The Mission E four-door sedan is in the final development stage.

Porsche has completed testing of the prototype, with the company’s research and development chief Michael Steiner confirming design work is now complete, Autocar

reports.

The aim is to produce a sports car with a low centre of gravity, “a car that’s typically Porsche but electric”, Steiner says.

The Mission E concept featured at the 2015 Frankfurt motor show, and the production model is due out in 2019 under a new name.

It’s expected to cost about $194,000 and include two motors producing 440kWh and driving 899Nm of torque to the rear wheels.

The electric sports car will be placed between the 911 and Panamera, which Porsche hopes will bring more customers.

An annual sales target of 20,000 units after the first year of production has reportedly been set.

Deliveries should start in 2020.
