Honda plans to create the new batteries in collaboration with a yet to be chosen partner.
The new cars will travel further on one charge through a lighter body and more efficient power control system.
Meanwhile, Honda plans to release mass-market EVs in Europe in 2019 and in Japan the following year.
Fast charging networks are likely in Japan from 2020, with Europe expected to have several thousand 350kW stations by then, which Honda can take advantage of.
