Honda Clarity wins Green Car of the Year

The Honda Clarity has won the 2018 Green Car of the Year award by the Green Car Journal at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The magazine says it’s the only model to provide plug-in hybrid, electric and hydrogen fuel cell power, making it the most eco-friendly car.

“Honda has now accomplished what no other automaker has – offering all three of these ‘green’ powertrains in a single model, with the capability of readily shifting production from one to another to meet future demand,” journal editor and publisher Ron Cogan says.

The plug-in Clarity was also praised for having the highest all-electric range among the plug-in hybrid sedans at nearly 76km on a single charge.

It’s appealing design with a spacious, highly-equipped and sophisticated contributed to the Clarity winning the top honour.

Finalists also included the Honda Accord, Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Ioniq and Toyota Camry.

The Ford Police Responder Hybrid, a modified Ford Fusion hybrid, is the 2018 Commercial Green Car of the Year and the Mazda’s MX-5 Miata is the 2018 Performance Green Car of the Year.
The Los Angeles Auto Show runs from December 1-10.
