New Year resolution – go electric

You could make a New Year resolution to get an electric vehicle and go emissions free.

Perhaps you got a micro-EV like an electric bike for Christmas – thousands did.

So the next step might be an electric car.

If you are in the hunt, then 2018 will provide more options than ever.

That’s according to overseas reports, like those from Wired which says that after all the hype electric cars comprise less than 1% of global vehicle sales.

But there’s a growing movement around the world to put a deadline on the life of the internal combustion engine, Wired

says. This year India, the United Kingdom, Norway, the Netherlands, and France, among other states and cities, have said they want to phase out gas and diesel vehicles within the next few decades. The planet’s largest car market, China, is moving in the same direction.

General Motors is working towards a fully electric future. All of Britain’s Jaguar Land Rover cars and SUVs will have an electric option by 2020, and Sweden’s Volvo is doing the same by 2019.

“All that means that if you’re looking to buy an electric car in 2018, you have more options than ever.”

Tesla’s “affordable” Model 3 should start filling some of the 400,000 back orders, the Nissan 2018 Leaf will update its electric car for the masses and Jaguar’s I-Pace will be available.

So if your plan is to go emissions free, 2018 is a good time to do it, Wired

reports.
