Electric and plug-in hybrid cars exceed three million
All-electric and plug-in hybrid cars have exceeded three million as automakers increase production.
The milestone was passed in November, the EV growth rate now around a million annually, The Guardian reports
Rapid growth is driven by government incentives, a wider range of EV models and declining battery costs.
A Swedish group tracking the global electric car market, EV-Volumes, predicts sales will accelerate next year, bringing EVs on the road to around five million by the year’s end.
EV Volumes says China, the world’s biggest EV market is in the “global driver seat”, encouraging drivers to buy electric with many incentives as it tackles smog problems.
While EV sales are growing fast, analysts say a million is still a small fraction of the 80 million cars sold worldwide annually.
