An all-electric three-wheeler Morgan based on designs going back nearly 80 years is expected to start production later this year.

The Morgan EV3 debuted at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show and can accelerate to nearly 100km/h in under nine seconds and reaches about 130-140km/h.

Construction of the three-wheeler will be the first time Morgan uses carbon panels in the body construction, the Daily Mail reports.

The British car maker’s EV3 weighs under 500kg, has a 20kWh lithium battery and liquid cooled 46kWh rear-wheel drive motor, and was designed after 1930s aero-engine racing cars, classic motorbikes and 1950s “fantasy automatons”, the company says.

It will be produced in partnership with Frazer-Nash Energy Systems, starting in the third quarter at Morgan’s Pickersleigh Road factory in Malvern, Britain.
