Eight EVs tested on range and energy efficiency
Eight plug-in electric vehicles have been tested on their real-world range and energy efficiency in the cold.
German auto industry news source Auto Bild did the tests in Ahlhorn, Oldenburg and Delmenhorst forest in Lower Saxony in temperatures around 5° Celsius (with the climate control set to 21°C, so heating affected results).
Some overseas media note test models were interesting, with the 24kWh Nissan e-NV200 Evalia used rather than the Nissan Leaf, for instance.
All of the EVs were tested along the same 143km route, which included a 43km highway stretch at up to 130km/h. Apparently, a couple of the models tested didn’t manage to complete the route, CleanTechnica reports.
It says the Hyundai Ioniq and the Renault Zoe clearly show why they are among some of the best options for those wanting to buy an EV.

Volkswagen e-up (18.7kWh) 79km range, 23.7kWh/100km energy efficiency; Smart ForTwo Electric Drive (17.6kWh) 84km, 21kWh/100km; Nissan e-NV200 Evalia (24kWh)101km, 23.8kWh/100km; Kia Soul EV (30kWh) 167km, 18kWh/100km; Hyundai Ioniq Electric (28kWh usable) 192km, 14.6kWh/100km; Volkswagen e-Golf (35.8kWh) 208km, 17.2kWh/100km; Renault Zoe (41kWh) 244km, 16.8kWh/100km; Opel Ampera-e (60kWh), 273km, 22kWh/100km.
PushEVs suggests the results could look a lot different if the Tesla Model 3 and the refreshed Nissan Leaf had been tested as well.
