Norway moving to electric aircraft

From electric cars to electric aircraft is not a big step for Norway.

The world leader in EV adoption sees state owned company Avinor planning short-haul flights to become all-electric by 2040.

Avinor runs most of the civil airports in Norway under the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and its chief executive Dag Falk-Petersen says all-electric planes are powerful enough to replace all regional planes in Norway, electrek reports.

“We think that all flights lasting up to 1.5 hours can be flown by aircraft that are entirely electric,” Falk-Petersen told the AFP news agency.

That includes all domestic flights and those to neighbouring Scandinavian capitals.

Avinor says it’s working on a tender offer for a small electric plane with 19 seats to be tested on commercial routes by 2025.
