Electrified power trains in top 10 best engines
Four electrified power trains are honoured for the first time in a single year during the Wards 10 Best Engines awards for 2018.
They were the Chevrolet Bolt EV’s 150kW electric propulsion system, the Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid’s 3.6L Pentastar DOHC V6, the Honda Clarity’s 130kW fuel cell/electric propulsion system and the Toyota Camry hybrid’s 2.5L Atkinson DOHC 4-cylinder/HEV power train.
“These four belong on our list because they are extremely efficient while at the same time fun to drive,” WardsAuto senior content director Drew Winter says.

Honda also won an award for its Civic Type R 2.0L VTEC turbocharged DOHC 4-cylinder engine.
Ford took two trophies as well, for its F-150 2.7L twin turbo DOHC V6 and Mustang GT 5.0L DOHC V8.
Included in the top 10 are the Infiniti Q50 3.0L turbocharged DOHC V6, the Jaguar XF’s 2.0L turbocharged DOHC 4-cylinder and the Kia Stinger’s 3.3L turbocharged DOHC V6.
Trophies were presented on January 17 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
WardsAuto editors chose the winners after spending October and November evaluating 32 engines and electric propulsion systems during routine commutes in metro Detroit during the awards’ 24th year.
