AI Day conference on March 28
Autonomous shuttle developers Ohmio Automotion’s research and development coordinator Mahmood Hikmet is among about 20 speakers at AI Day, described as “New Zealand’s premier artificial intelligence event”.
It’s on March 28 at the ASB Waterfront Theatre in Auckland, presented by AI Forum NZ and NewZealand.ai.
Based in East Auckland with global aspirations, Ohmio Automotion Ltd has an R&D team of 20 creating the operating system and a complete scalable eco-system for connected autonomous vehicles. Its first commercial vehicle, an electric 12-seater self-driving shuttle, is expected to be deployed by May.
Lord Mayor of London Charles Bowman tries the Ohmio shuttle at MOTAT while leading a business delegation here this week. He met Auckland mayor Phil Goff, former All Black Sir John Kirwan and addressed events such as the Digital Nations 2030 summit.
AI is a key enabler for Ohmio as it allows for smarter and more complex decisions to be made about whatever data is present.
Mahmood, who has just gained a PhD in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University of Auckland, is a son of Mohammed Hikmet who founded HMI Technologies (Ohmio’s parent company) with his brother Ahmed in 1999.
AI Day programme explores opportunities, impacts on business, customers and workforce, developing an AI capability, benefits to people and society, and the future of AI.
“Nano Girl” Dr Michelle Dickinson is the compere.
Another guest speaker is Steve Guggenheimer, Microsoft AI business vice-president.
Others include Westpac New Zealand chief information officer Dawie Olivier, Professor Guy Littlefair from the Auckland University of Technology, Centrality.AI chief executive officer Aaron McDonald, Soul Machines chief business officer Greg Cross, and Orbica founder Kurt Janseen.
