An electric Jaguar I-Pace driven by Kiwi Formula E driver Mitch Evans torched two Teslas in a 0-60mp/h (0-96.56km/h) challenge.

Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Evans showcased the acceleration and braking power of Jaguar’s first EV against the Tesla Model X 75D and 100D driven by former IndyCar Series champion Tony Kanaan.

The I-Pace finished a car length ahead of the 75D and half a car length in front of the 100D, also outperforming the two Model X cars in braking.

Jaguar’s five-seater electric SUV can reach 0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds.

The challenge was held ahead of the March 1-3 FIA Formula E race in Mexico City.

Meanwhile, nine-year-olds Lola and Hudson gave British comedian and actor Jack Whitehall an I-Pace technology tour, also hosted by TV presenter and EV enthusiast Jonny Smith and American tech guru iJustine as the first I-Pace came off the production line in Plant Graz, Austria.

The Jaguar I-Pace, with a 90kWh battery, 480km range and rapid charging, was unveiled globally in a live broadcast last week and will make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6.
