Make any vehicle autonomous – install a robot driver

Why waste more than a billion vehicles by replacing them with autonomous ones?

IVO Robot Driver at Ben-Gurion University in Israel aims to put a robot driver in the seat instead.

It could be used in existing cars, trucks, and other industrial vehicles, TechRepublic reports.

Roboticist Hugo Guterman and student Oded Yechiel say a second version of IVO is coming soon, able to fold into a suitcase and be installed within five minutes.

It connects to the steering wheel and pedals, later getting an arm to operate different features inside the vehicle.

Tailored like a human driver, it has all of the sensors, computing power, and more, can recognise the road and objects in its environment, driving just like a human would.

IVO is intended initially for niche applications such as mining, agriculture, security and border control.
