“Classic” Mini Electric on show

An all-electric version of the classic Mini will be presented at the New York International Auto Show, March 30 to April 8.

The Mini Electric combines the historic look with new technology for tomorrow’s urban mobility.

A concept was announced at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, with British car maker Mini’s first all-electric vehicle to be unveiled in 2019 – in time for the Mini’s 60th anniversary.

The fully electric production vehicle is under development, based on the Mini three-door, and will be produced at the Mini Oxford plant next year.

BMW Group presented the Mini E in 2008, based on the predecessor model of the current Mini three-door. About 600 examples were produced and used in a field trial under everyday conditions, which paved the way for the BMW i3’s development.

The Mini Cooper S E Countryman All4 plug-in hybrid model followed.

By contrast, the classic Mini Electric presented in New York will remain unique, Mini says. A restored example of the classic Mini Cooper serves as the basis for this special vehicle, which has the yellow Mini Electric logo in the brand emblem and on the wheel hubs.
