E-mobility’s future discussed

A conference in California focussed on the future of e-mobility powered by a combined charging system (CCS) attracted more than 150 representatives from EV-related industries.

The first CharIN North America (Charging Interface Initiative e.V.) conference in Fremont included EV displays by BMW, Daimler, Lucid Motors and Energica.

Experts from CharIN and e-mobility-related industries discussed the future of e-mobility powered by CCS, the standard for charging battery-powered electric vehicles of all kinds.

The conference heard about the growth of CharIN from 12 to over 120 members in just two years.

A keynote speech, titled “250,000 Electric Vehicle Chargers by 2025: Spurring the construction of infrastructure to reduce carbon pollution and improve public health and the environment”, was given by California Energy Commission fuels and transportation division deputy director John Kato.

In January, governor Edmund G Brown Jr. ordered the deployment of five million zero emission vehicles onto California roads by 2030. In support of this goal, Brown directed California’s agencies to work with private industry to spur the construction and installation of 250,000 EV chargers, including 10,000 direct current fast chargers.

Kato also highlighted the opportunities for private investment to lead the transformation to electric transportation.

Panel discussions included the topics driving the EV revolution with CCS, setting a global standard and start-ups and investors – driving CCS based e-mobility through disruptive innovation.
